Hysteresis Brakes and Clutches

Magtrol’s Hysteresis Brakes and Clutches produce torque strictly through a magnetic air gap, without the use of magnetic particles or friction components. This method of braking provides far superior operating characteristics (smoother torque, longer life, superior repeatability, high degree of controllability, and less maintenance and down time) which make them the preferred choice for precise tension and torque control during the processing of nearly any material, web or strand. Standard or customized brakes and clutches are available, as are power supplies, matched brakes, torque curves and other options.

Torque Sensors and Transducers

Both Magtrol’s TM Series In-Line Torque Transducers and TF Series Torque Flange Sensors provide excellent long-term stability, reliability and noise immunity by employing highly-accurate non-contact measuring techniques. The TM Transducer offers the added benefits derived from no electronic components rotating during operation. Features exclusive to the TF Sensor include: a compact, rigid, bearingless design; and insusceptibility to signal interference, axial/radial misalignment and shocks. Several price and performance options are offered, covering a broad range of torque (from 0.1 Nm to 150,000 N·m) and speed (up to 50,000 rpm) measurement capabilities, as are torque displays with included data acquisition software.

Micro Dyne System

Magtrol’s revolutionary new Micro Dyne system is designed specifically for closed-loop testing of miniature motors and micro motors used in low-torque/high-speed applications. Magtrol offers three types of dynamometers, each with a different braking system to absorb load: hysteresis, Eddy-current and powder. The dynamometers are complemented by DSP-based controllers, power analyzers and LabVIEW™ based motor test software. Magtrol’s dynamometers, electronics and software are used for testing all types of electric and pneumatic motors, gas engines and gearheads, as well as servo drives and inverters.
